About Us
The Australian Facility for Advanced Ion Implantation Research (AFAiiR) is part of Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) operated by the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering in the Research School of Physics and Engineering at the Australian National University.
AFAiiR undertakes a broad range of research activities ranging from fundamental studies of ion-solid interaction processes and the development and application of ion beam techniques, to materials science studies employing ion-implantation and ion-beam analysis. The research is centered around state-of-the-art accelerator facilities, including two ion-implanters (150 kV and 1.7 MV tandem) and a versatile ion-beam analysis machine (1.7 MV tandem), together with an impressive array of complementary techniques.
AFAiiR - HIAF is funded in part by National Research Infrastructure for Australia (NCRIS) – an Australian government initiative.
